In just a few days, we'll be relaxing under the warmth of the equator sun in Belize. The best part is that I'll get seven days with my sister who I haven't set eyes on since September. That may not seem like a long time, but in sister time, it is a VERY long time. We are the best of friends, and if I can trust anyone, it's her. She's the easiest person to road trip with, go to movies with, drink wine and watch Parenthood with, adventure with, among so much more.
This weekend I was scheduled to work Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the hospital. The downside of working 8-hour shifts is that I also have to work every other weekend. Fridays are supremely busy at the hospital with all the end-of-the-week discharges, and yesterday was no different. Today I received a call around 4:30 a.m. notifying me I was mandated off due to low census, but would be the first one called in if help was needed. I laid awake in bed, unable to fall back asleep, until 6 a.m., and then soundly snoozed until 10:30. My kind of morning. I'd love to me a morning person, but the fact is, I am not.
My husband was working on his car installing new headlights all morning, so I started laundry and began packing for our trip. By 1 p.m., we figured I was clear of work, so we headed to the gym. I was still majorly sore from back squats, split squats, and good mornings on Thursday, but decided to deadlift and lunge, as well as lift biceps and triceps today. Oh, lordy. My hamstrings are talking to me. They love me and they hate me.
After lifting, we decided to shop around for snowshoes. After three stops and comparing brands, prices, styles, I decided to go with Tubbs because we liked the bindings and style best. We didn't make a purchase, however, instead came home to shop online to see if we could find better prices (those things aren't cheap). I am so excited to be receiving my new snowshoes in the next few weeks, and to discover more trails in the area.
Before heading home, we purchased a few groceries in order to make my current favorite meal for dinner...shrimp, veggies, and rice. YUM! We always use asparagus, mushrooms, multi-colored peppers, and broccoli. After dinner we cozied up on the couch with my heated blanket to watch the final episode of season two of Homeland. To put it plainly, we are obsessed with this show.
Tomorrow I work, we finish packing, and then prepare to depart for the airport. We are enormously grateful for the opportunity to travel. Some days you just have to get away and take a break from it all. To unwind and relax. To reenergize. To remember what is important in life. We can't wait.
Continue following for future blogs on our adventures in Belize. We have plans to take a two-night sailboat trip, snorkel, fish, and visit Mayan ruins while there.
Shout out to White Sands Cove near San Pedro, Belize... if you are planning a trip to Belize, consider staying there. I heard the management there is one of the best:-)
